winter outfit inspo
Boy, has it been a minute since I last blogged on here. I am currently sitting in my bed, surrounded by piles of clothing and outfits that I am attempting to piece together for school. Ever since I can remember, I have always loved organizing my clothes and trying on different outfits in my room with music playing in the background (kind of like grown-up dress up, if you will).
This has been something that I have continued through college. Coming home for long breaks allows me the time to revamp and re-imagine my closet, adding in some new pieces that I have gotten over the winter season.
If you know me, you know that I love warm weather and soak up every ounce of sunshine in the summer. This winter I am teaching myself to enjoy the season and try to stop myself from thinking and wishing ahead to the summer. Lucky for me, some cute chunky scarves and fashionable boots are helping me to stay warm and focus on the now.
For any of my college girls, (or girls in general), who are in need of some fashion inspo, you are in the right place! I decided to snap some pics while doing my try-on to provide some outfit inspo. For me, it can be a little difficult at school to get inspired and dress “cute” (stepping outside the realm of leggings and sweatshirts), since I have had the high-school experience of throwing on a uniform every day. But, something I have realized is that our outfits and clothing can say a lot about us. It’s kind of cool to have the creativity and ability to piece together different items into one “look”. So, here are some of my favorite looks for this winter!
army green everything
If I had to choose one scarf to wear for the rest of the winter season, it would be this Free People knit scarf! I bought it from the FP store when it was beginning to get a bit chillier out, and I have not stopped wearing it recently! It is so cozy and keeps my whole upper half super warm.
Under my scarf I am wearing my 100% human Everlane cropped tee (thanks brother!) I have noticed that since the scarf is so big and cozy, I can get easily overheated if I have something else heavy or long-sleeve on under it. Because of that, I usually wear a short-sleeve tee or a thin long-sleeve on underneath.
On my bottom half, I have on the black AGOLDE denim jeans from Indigo Octopus. I love them for their cool edgy detailing on the bottom. Also, they hit right above my ankles and require no rolling, something I always look for since I am short!
My sneakers are a recent find (@my mom’s closet). I have no idea which kind they are, so I will link to a similar pair of Nike sneakers. I feel like you could find these at Nordstrom rack since they often carry older styles of Nike’s.
I would throw a jacket over this look, most likely this vintage army / military jacket to break up the black in this look. I recently found this at a local vintage store, so I will link to a similar military style jacket from FP.
the fuzzy denim jacket
If a blanket and denim jacket met, they would create this jacket. This fuzzy lined denim jacket is the Show Me Your Mumu denim jacket from Indigo Octopus. It is the comfiest, coziest jacket ever and will be a constant in my wardrobe whenever it is a little chilly. I could honestly see this jacket transitioning into spring and fall as well.
I have this jacket in a size small and it fits a little over-sized (which I love!) I would throw this jacket over any outfit, such as my last one. I would definitely style it with black pants or leggings.
the levi’s look
Until I found these levi’s from Aritzia, I had never owned a pair of levi’s denim. Ever since I got these jeans, I have not taken them off! I had always been under the impression that levi’s jeans could be uncomfortable and it was hard to find your size. This pair was a total game changer for me. They are the levi’s 501 original cropped jeans. Since I am short, I wear them cuffed which I think adds to their look even more!
I paired them with my Free People “be the one” cream long-sleeve thermal (linked to a similar thermal). For my shoes, I have on my other new love – my black leather Dr. Martens lace-ups. I had been looking for a shorter lace up boot and decided to give these a try. After consulting Pinterest and looking into how others style them, I was convinced that they no longer have such a grungy / emo undertone (nothing against that look, but it doesn’t exactly match my aesthetic). I am so happy that I have these as a staple in my wardrobe. Not only are they extremely durable and go with everything, but they were not a hassle to break in at all. I have loved pairing them with a variety of outfits and I can’t wait to transition them into other seasons (they also look adorable with dresses!)
Over this look, I would either throw on my SAGE teddy coat (linked to a similar style from UO), or a simple oversized flannel. Since it is absolutely freezing out, I would also most definitely layer a coat on top of the flannel to stay warm.
the exposed belt
Next, wearing the same levi’s as before, I would switch out my top for this light grey H&M pullover sweater. I was inspired by Jess Undecided to look into their sweaters this season and I found this super cozy knit. I paired it with my black FRYE belt that I found on sale at the rack. Personally, I feel like belts have made quite the comeback within the fashion world, so I was excited to reintroduce this one back into my look. For my shoes, I went with my black Dr. Martens again 🙂
That’s it for this post. I hope that my outfits are able to inspire you in your winter wardrobe!
