a night at indigo octopus

This past Friday, one of my favorite stores, Indigo Octopus, hosted their first #indigodays event. The night was filled with plenty of denim, delicious food, and beautiful flowers.

I was super excited to shop the store’s newest denim / fall collection and meet up with the awesome people who work behind the scenes at Indigo. Michelle & Skip have always been some of my biggest supporters, encouraging me with my bracelets and boosting my confidence. I loved getting to see them, as well as see my bracelets on display in the store!

Michelle’s eye for picking clothing and décor for the store is spot on. Everything is so aesthetically pleasing and appealing to the eye. I loved her new product, especially for its soft blue and indigo hues.

& can we just talk about these flower arrangements for a sec? My mom and I could not stop looking at these creations from thurmanandfigfloral. Go check out their website for more flower inspo. Carly, the owner of Thurman & Fig, also created beautiful plant hangings behind the counter / cash register of the store. Her flower arrangements could be found throughout Indigo, perfectly matching the indigo / grey aesthetic.

A fun addition to the night was the free bandana / monogramming station. I picked out a navy denim bandana from Donni Charm that was then monogrammed with my insta name, @madauer. I absolutely love it and I can’t wait to display it in my apartment this year.

The food of the night was from One Coastal, a farm to table restaurant steps away from Indigo – literally it is next door! Everything was so fresh and delicious. From a cheese and cracker / fruit table to a flatbread pizza table, everything was amazing. My mouth is watering just thinking about the food from that night. My mom and I both tried one slice from each flatbread pizza. The first was a goat cheese, peach, and olive oil pizza – it was unlike anything I have ever had – SO good. The second was a prosciutto, arugula, and mozzarella pizza. Both = YUM

Once my mom and I finished our shopping and photo extravaganza, we headed outside to the storefront. Michelle decorated the whole outside of the store with lights, lanterns, and potted flowers. So cute! I couldn’t help but take a couple photos with our new thurmanandfig floral!

I loved everything about this night and I am so thankful that we were able to attend the event. It was also super cool to see my bracelets on display in the store. Huge thanks to Michelle and her team at Indigo for being so welcoming and encouraging.

If you haven’t already, definitely check out Indigo Octopus. Also, head over to Thurman & Fig and One Coastal. Next time you’re in Fenwick, these are all places you will want to check out.

travel series: nyc

Hello & happy summer! Hopefully, if you are reading this, you are already done with school or almost finishing up with finals.

photo with text that reads, "travel series: nyc"

If you follow along with my personal insta account, you know that I have been doing quite a bit of traveling (a lot for me, that is). We recently went to new york city for Memorial Day Weekend. We spent four days in the city and explored various areas, such as brooklyn and soho.

I decided I would make this post more photo based, because, what better way to show our explorations on this trip than through photos! This post is the first of a travel series, as I will continue to share my favorite spots / moments after various trips.

Keep reading to see more of my trip to nyc…

// we practically walked into this sculpture. This awesome art installation is in Rockefeller Center. Read more about it here. (We didn’t have much time to explore our first day since our train got in later that afternoon)

// day two was spent exploring the streets of soho. Pressed Juicery is a quaint and trendy shop with yummy pressed juices. Two words = fresh and simple.

// it’s basically inevitable that we end up eating at Shake Shack at least once during our trip. However, my brother and tour guide in one led us to Soho Park – a hip, trendy, and delicious burger find. Better yet, they are much cheaper than Shake Shack!

// if you’re looking for the perfect photo-op, head to Nomo Soho. This hip and trendy hotel has the coolest spots for photos. Their archway is ~ magical ~

// I always love going to Brandy Melville, so I had to include this pic! They are pretty strict with taking photos in the store so I snapped this mirror pic instead. Head to their online store to see their clothing selection.

soho buildings

// always love the buildings of soho

// shoutout to mama auer for taking this shot! One of our favorite parts about soho are the unexpected finds within the side streets. There are so many photo-ops if you just remember to look up at the buildings.

storefront - by Chloe.

// before leaving soho we stopped in by Chloe for a quick bite to eat. I had been wanting to go here for so long because all of my bloggers and youtubers always rave about this place. It’s hip, trendy, and has plenty of healthy options to choose from. My dad isn’t the biggest fan of vegan style foods so he got a smoothie while my mom and I got avocado toast. TBH I enjoyed my dad’s smoothie more than the avo toast. The toast came with seasonal veggies on top, which happened to be peas and pickled onions. It wasn’t even photo worthy (and that says a lot!) The morale of the story is, I wish I had opted for a smoothie or one of their other options, but it was still tasty. I will def try again…

// my DREAM – One Girl Cookies…literally so good – if you happen to go here while in Dumbo, try one of their whoopie pies. They are delicious and totally worth every calorie. Of course, you can get coffee too, or a cupcake…or one of each! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this post ! Let me know about your thoughts on the layout of this post. I wanted it to be more of a travel diary with a greater focus on the photos and less on the text.

ALSO check out my friend Maddy’s blog! She recently started it and I loooove it. Seriously so cute.

ps – you should really check out Glossier. I went to their showroom while in soho and it was one of the coolest experiences. All of my youtubers (it should be noted that “my youtubers” = beauty and fashion vloggers / bloggers) rave about Glossier. Also, their packaging is beautifulllll. Probably gonna blog about them soon.

complete spring look book

Hello from four floors up & happy spring!

I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for spring – warmer weather, longer days, and of course, spring style. Part of the reason why I love spring is because it is the perfect time to take a step back, look at your wardrobe, and consider parting ways with some of your older clothing items. This is exactly what I did when I went home for spring break, thus opening up space in my closet for some spring essentials!

In this post, I will be linking to a range of products, all of which will complete my “spring look book.” These items will range from clothing to accessories to home décor. Keep reading for some spring inspiration…

CLOTHING

madewell jeans

One of my favorite looks for spring will definitely involve pairing these Madewell 9″ high-rise skinny crop jeans with other items in my closet. These jeans have a classic blue hue that will complement any outfit. Also, they are extremely comfortable and pair great with slip-ons or your favorite pair of sneakers.

If you happen to check out these jeans or any other Madewell denim, be sure to read about their Denim Donation Program. (see small infographic below)

sweatshirt

Even though spring brings warmer weather, you still need a sweatshirt to stay warm on those chilly nights. I am loving this new Love Your Melon Sweatshirt. I purchased mine in the color light gray (of course) but there are several other colors available, such as red, dark gray, navy, and purple.

SHOES

adidas stan smith

I am so very excited about this next item – the Adidas Stan Smith sneakers! I have been looking at the different Adidas shoes, trying to figure out if I should go with the classic or the Stan Smith collection. Finally, after trying them on, I went with the Stan Smith Adidas. I am looking forward to pairing these with cut-off jeans and a tee for the spring.

ACCESSORIES

calvin klein denim cap

For those super sunny days, it’s always nice to have a baseball cap on hand. For me, I love this Calvin Klein Baseball Hat. Its classic denim material and simple logo make it easy to pair with any outfit.

opi nail polish

Looking for a great spring color for your nails? Check out my favorite OPI color at the moment, the perfect nude pink!

DÉCOR

succulent

For me, succulents are always in style, but if there is an essential time to invest in a succulent, spring would have to be the time. Brighten any space with a small succulent. Some of my favorite places to purchase fake yet life-like succulents are Target, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx. I recently purchased this real succulent from a farmer’s market in Philly, but you could easily recreate your own succulent habitat.

SPRING ACTIVITY

hammock time

One of my goals this spring is to spend as much time outside as possible. On campus, my friends and I love spending time on the quad in our hammock (shout out to Luke.) We are definitely looking to invest in a hammock soon so we can spend even more time out on the quad.

bullet journaling

Bullet journaling has been one of my goals for this year. Bullet journaling takes time and dedication, but I have started to treat my bullet journals as list makers, helping me to check items off of my to do lists.

One of my favorite bullet journalists is @journalbeanie. I aspire to create a bullet journal similar to hers. Check out her Instagram feed (linked above) for some serious bullet journal inspo.

SPRING TIME SNACK

healthy eating

Usually, the warmer months inspire me to get creative with my snacking and consider the healthier options. For me, a staple to warmer months is fresh fruit. If you’re a college student, always grab some fruit before leaving your dining hall. My favorites have been pears and clementines!

I hope that this post inspired you with some new ideas for this spring. Spring is the perfect time to start fresh. Whether it’s cleaning out your closet, reorganizing your room, or eating healthy, this spring time is full of new opportunities.

xoxo,

madauer
