product review: Glossier

According to Glossier, “Skin is in…”

And I think that they’re right.

skin is in

Before visiting NYC, I heard countless reviews about Glossier from other bloggers and youtubers, all of them raving about Glossier’s skincare line / products.

“What even is this Glossier,” I thought to myself.

I decided to visit their website and do some research. I was immediately in love with their product design and packaging. (I always appreciate some clean and simple packaging.) This was about a week before we left for NYC, so I was so excited to find out that the Glossier showroom was in lower Manhattan.

Let me tell you, the Glossier showroom is definitely an experience and I loved every minute of it. They don’t call it the most Instagram worthy spot for no reason.

First, all of the workers wear their iconic dusty pink jumpsuit. L O V E it.

Then, they have each product set up and you are able to test every.single.one.

After looking online, I knew that I wanted to try the Milky Jelly Cleanser, Mint Balm Dotcom, and the Super Glow serum. After trying them out at the store, I bought all three and I have been loving them ever since.

three products

The Milky Jelly Cleanser is so light and refreshing. Something I love about their products is that they are multi-purpose. You can pretty much make them what you want them to be. For example, with the Milky Cleanser, you can either use it on dry skin to dissolve makeup, or on wet skin to start the day. I don’t wear much makeup, so I use it more as a cleanser to start my day and feel refreshed. Even better, it is gentle on your eyes because it is made out of the same ingredients found in contact lens solution. Overall 10/10.

Mint Balm Dotcom is just as amazing as the cleanser. I love a lip balm that leaves my lips feeling cool and moisturized, and this product does just that. You can use any of the balm dotcoms on your lips or anywhere that needs some moisturizing, such as your cuticles. Balm Dotcom is available in the following flavors: cherry, original, rose, mint, coconut, and their new flavor ~ BIRTHDAY ~

Saving the best for last with the Super Glow serum. This serum is designed with Vitamin C (brightens) and Magnesium (energizes). Glossier totally understands our problems with this product line. Their three serums are made to lift us on our dullest days. You can choose from Super Glow (for when you’re feeling dull), Super Bounce (for when you’re feeling dry), and Super Pure (for when you’re feeling stressed). Honestly, I think we could all invest in one of these to help brighten our mood on our most stressful days. I love the way that Super Glow absorbs into my skin with its water like texture. It always leaves my skin feeling vibrant and refreshed.

As if that’s not enough to convince you to try out Glossier, their products come in reusable pink pouches with adorable sticker packs. The pouches are so popular that they sell them separately online! I have been reusing mine as travel pouches to carry my Glossier products on-the-go.

Overall, I highly recommend trying out Glossier. Everything about their products is unique and innovative, whether it be their packaging, design, purpose, or ingredients.

travel series: nyc

Hello & happy summer! Hopefully, if you are reading this, you are already done with school or almost finishing up with finals.

photo with text that reads, "travel series: nyc"

If you follow along with my personal insta account, you know that I have been doing quite a bit of traveling (a lot for me, that is). We recently went to new york city for Memorial Day Weekend. We spent four days in the city and explored various areas, such as brooklyn and soho.

I decided I would make this post more photo based, because, what better way to show our explorations on this trip than through photos! This post is the first of a travel series, as I will continue to share my favorite spots / moments after various trips.

Keep reading to see more of my trip to nyc…

// we practically walked into this sculpture. This awesome art installation is in Rockefeller Center. Read more about it here. (We didn’t have much time to explore our first day since our train got in later that afternoon)

// day two was spent exploring the streets of soho. Pressed Juicery is a quaint and trendy shop with yummy pressed juices. Two words = fresh and simple.

// it’s basically inevitable that we end up eating at Shake Shack at least once during our trip. However, my brother and tour guide in one led us to Soho Park – a hip, trendy, and delicious burger find. Better yet, they are much cheaper than Shake Shack!

// if you’re looking for the perfect photo-op, head to Nomo Soho. This hip and trendy hotel has the coolest spots for photos. Their archway is ~ magical ~

// I always love going to Brandy Melville, so I had to include this pic! They are pretty strict with taking photos in the store so I snapped this mirror pic instead. Head to their online store to see their clothing selection.

// always love the buildings of soho

// shoutout to mama auer for taking this shot! One of our favorite parts about soho are the unexpected finds within the side streets. There are so many photo-ops if you just remember to look up at the buildings.

storefront - by Chloe.

// before leaving soho we stopped in by Chloe for a quick bite to eat. I had been wanting to go here for so long because all of my bloggers and youtubers always rave about this place. It’s hip, trendy, and has plenty of healthy options to choose from. My dad isn’t the biggest fan of vegan style foods so he got a smoothie while my mom and I got avocado toast. TBH I enjoyed my dad’s smoothie more than the avo toast. The toast came with seasonal veggies on top, which happened to be peas and pickled onions. It wasn’t even photo worthy (and that says a lot!) The morale of the story is, I wish I had opted for a smoothie or one of their other options, but it was still tasty. I will def try again…

// my DREAM – One Girl Cookies…literally so good – if you happen to go here while in Dumbo, try one of their whoopie pies. They are delicious and totally worth every calorie. Of course, you can get coffee too, or a cupcake…or one of each! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this post ! Let me know about your thoughts on the layout of this post. I wanted it to be more of a travel diary with a greater focus on the photos and less on the text.

ALSO check out my friend Maddy’s blog! She recently started it and I loooove it. Seriously so cute.

ps – you should really check out Glossier. I went to their showroom while in soho and it was one of the coolest experiences. All of my youtubers (it should be noted that “my youtubers” = beauty and fashion vloggers / bloggers) rave about Glossier. Also, their packaging is beautifulllll. Probably gonna blog about them soon.

my first year experience

hello from…NOT four floors up,

"my first year experience" text over photo of girls

It’s weird, I know, trust me – I am no longer four floors up! I am currently back home in Maryland and feeling sentimental that my freshman year is officially over. However, I am so happy that I have been able to share my first year experience with you through four floors up. I hope that my blog will continue to inspire and spread good vibes in the future.

BUT you may be thinking, “okay so she was four floors up, but now what?” No need to worry – I will be continuing to blog throughout the summer and feature my daily lifestyle advice and inspo, such as trips to NYC and summer style. When I return back to school in the fall, I will also continue to post about ~ apartment style ~ décor and all things college lifestyle inspiration. Since my blog originated when I was living four floors up in Villiger, I will be keeping my name as four floors up (whew!)

Now that I have updated you all, I want to skip to the more important subject – my takeaways from freshman year / inspiration for my future college readers! Keep reading to learn more…

(ALSO shout out to my fourth floor girls – I could not have survived freshman year without you)

BE OPEN // TRY NEW THINGS

I managed to figure this out pretty quickly into my freshman year. After moving in and participating in an early move in program where we volunteered throughout the Philadelphia area, I understood the importance of being open to trying new things. You never know what you will really enjoy / click with until you try it. This tip applies to both trying new things and meeting people. I am looking forward to further trying this in the future. There are so many activities, clubs, and trips that my school offers that I want to get involved in, as well as many people that I have still yet to meet.

DON’T RUSH IT

I think that there is a certain hype around freshman year and a rush to make new friends and meet as many people as possible. While you should be open and passionate about getting involved, don’t rush into things and get overwhelmed. The same goes for making friends – don’t feel rush or obliged to have your squad of best friends set by the second week of school. Making friends takes time and you shouldn’t worry if you feel like you haven’t clicked with anyone in the beginning of the semester.

My advice – take advantage of the various events your RA plans for your floor. I was lucky enough to have Greta (our 4th floor RA). She planned floor events for us to get to know each other, such as team bonding and road trips.

EXPLORE YOUR SCHOOL & CITY

Once you feel comfortable with your school’s campus and buildings, begin to explore and find your favorite parts of campus. I love walking around St. Joe’s campus and exploring all the different areas.

This didn’t happen for my friends and I until second semester, but once you feel confident enough, take trips into the city / surrounding areas around your school! After getting lost and taking about 2 hours to get to the city of Philly (all for Hibachi) my friends and I were a little scared to try Philly transportation ever again. However, I think we have now conquered Septa transportation and make city trips almost every weekend. It’s important to get away from campus, if only for a few hours. If you are planning to go to school in Philly, check out Rittenhouse Square or Suburban Square – just some of our fav areas.

ALONE TIME IS IMPORTANT TOO

As an introvert, I know that I need time throughout the week to spend alone / reflect on whatever has happened in my life. College was vastly different for me, as it involved constant social interaction, something that I was not used to. If you ever feel overwhelmed or feel like you need time to yourself, find a relatively quiet spot on campus. Everyone needs time to refocus, recharge, and center their thoughts and feelings.

IT’S OK TO FEEL HOMESICK

It’s okay, really! It’s natural for you to miss your parents, family, or dogs at home. After move in, all I could think about was going home and seeing my parents. However, after I got busy and my schoolwork began to increase, I forgot about how much I missed my home. If you are feeling consistently homesick, I would suggest getting more involved in activities that your school offers. For me, the busier I was, the less time I had to think about how much I missed my family / home / friends.

STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF

I also realized this pretty quickly into my freshman year. There are certain qualities and characteristics that you possess that some people may not like. However, these qualities make you who you are as an individual and differentiate you from the rest of your class. People will be naturally drawn to you for who you are, so don’t try and be something different.

Now…special shout out to my fourth floor girls. I mentioned you guys earlier, but I really appreciate everything ~ all of the laughs, memories, and stories that we all shared this year. I cannot imagine living doors away from anyone else. I know that you guys are going to kill it this summer and I can’t wait to reunite soon.

Greta – thank you for being an amazing RA. You were the best neighbor and our floor could always count on you to be there for us. You were always down for a dance party or to listen to our problems, whatever time it may be. I can’t wait to see everything you accomplish and where the world takes you in the future. Can’t wait to see you super soon and talk about your trip to España!
