some spring favorites…

Hello! It’s been a minute since I last posted on here. With an unexpected extension to my spring break, I decided that I could use my extra time to channel some positivity and inspo on my blog. I think that right now we could all use some inspiration and uplifting words.

First, my heart goes out to everyone who is feeling the effects of this crazy time we’re currently in. I think that it has been tough on everyone in some way, and my heart goes out especially to all the small businesses during this tough time. It can be easy to get stuck in a rut when things seem to be out of control, so that is why I am trying to re-channel and re-focus my time into other things. As someone who loves to plan and hates the unexpected, I think that this time is definitely serving as a learning experience for me.

I decided to reflect on what I have been feeling grateful for in my life and what has been bringing me happiness. I know we shouldn’t look for happiness in things, but sometimes hobbies, objects, or new activities can bring us happiness when implemented into our lives to break up the ordinary routine.

So, here are some of my new found spring favorites / things I have been loving lately – things that make me smile. These things have especially helped to ease my mind during all the craziness.

film photography

I took my first film class about two years ago, and I totally fell in love with it. After taking some time off from shooting film, I decided to rent out a film camera for the remainder of the semester and shoot color film. I forgot how much I loved the feel of shooting with film. It makes me look at my surroundings in a different light and really allows me to play with my creativity. If you have an old film camera or digital camera lying around, or any camera for that measure, I totally suggest giving it a try. Any creative / artistic means can be a stress reliever.

new music

When it comes to music, I am not the best at stepping out of my comfort zone. While I am not particular about music (I listen to pretty much anything and everything,) I am not the best at seeking out new artists / genres. I made it a goal of mine to find some new artists and start listening to different music (for me.) I say “for me” because some may look at my newer playlists and think that it’s nothing special. But, I have definitely been loving these new music choices, especially those in my “rising” and “homebound” playlists – shoutout to my radiant music girl Marissa for creating homebound for me to listen to on my journey home for spring break! New music can be so soothing and up-lifting.

plant based meals

I have always enjoyed healthy eating, but recently I have realized my love for plant based meals – salads, smoothies, juices, etc. I think that when you listen to your body, it becomes evident what makes you feel good. For me, I love creating colorful salads, smoothies, fruit and yogurt bowls, etc. Some of my favorite salad mixings include sweet potatoes, broccoli, beets, carrots, roasted veggies, etc. I love just kind of pulling together miscellaneous items from the fridge and making a fun salad or meal out of it. Check out my Pinterest for some recipes to try.

plants

a beautiful Pinterest space – basically a dream work space for me

I also have realized how important plants are to a space that I am in. I think that, similar to pets, plants can have a soothing and calming effect on a space. Hanging plants are my new obsession, and I recently incorporated a new hanging plant into my room this weekend. It’s amazing how one little addition can brighten a space and make it feel brand new! Take this time to switch up the space you’re in, even if that means rearranging one piece of furniture, creating a mood board, or wall collage.

deep clean

Cleaning isn’t everyone’s favorite task, and I know that, but it can be a satisfying way to not only benefit the space you are in, but your mental health as well. A clean and de-cluttered space gives me room to breathe, focus, and re-center myself. Not to mention it can be a fun walk down memory lane, or provide you with some new forgotten clothing items that you totally forgot you had (this always happens to me!) It can also be a fun way to sell some of your past items that you no longer want anymore.

journaling, writing, blogging…

Any form of journaling or self-reflecting always leaves me feeling a little lighter and less “thought jumbled.” Especially during this time of uncertainty, I think it’s important to get your thoughts out of your head and into the air, whether that be through conversation with someone, writing things down, or even talking to a camera / recorder (of course it doesn’t have to go anywhere or be shared.) All of these can be very therapeutic.

I think this is also an ideal time to do anything that you have been pushing off for yourself, because you have felt pulled in a million different places (as my favorite YouTuber had said.) So, read that book, journal, start / write that blog, take those photos, start that painting, cook that meal –– do the thing!

For an additional read, check out The Good Trade’s 5 Natural Ways to Boost Your Immunity as well as Margot Lee’s Open Letter to College Seniors. She also has it in letter form if you prefer reading over watching a video. Even if you’re not a college senior, I think its message is powerful for all to hear.

I would love to hear what has been bringing you joy these past couple of weeks. Sending good vibes, health and happiness to all.
